Roberta Walker sent the
following letter to class members on June 5, 2010:
124 Battley Dairy Road
Hamlet, NC 28345
June 5, 2010
Dear Classmates,
Our deadline, June 15, yes, June 15, is
approaching for your Reunion reservation and your inclusion in the
Reunion Directory Booklet. This booklet will be the best ever.
Not only will it contain our deceased classmates’ section, it will also
contain verbal/oral memories, photographic memories, and candid shots from
both nights of this year’s reunion. To help make this the best
treasure yet, I need help from only some of you. If you have
already sent everything in, please overlook this letter. I apologize.
Even if you can’t attend, please send in your info and memories.
(That will save time in someone having to call you.) Please help us. Thanks
so much in advance.
NEED THE FOLLOWING: (check
your list)
1. ________ your presence accompanied with
monies.
2. ________ your biography (information) since high school
3. ________ memories……..…..anything (written) you remember in grade
school up to graduation (as many memories as you wish to contribute)
4. ________ article/articles, “In Remembrance”, written about a deceased
classmate or classmates (WE ONLY HAVE ONE --BY LYNN STEEN ON BILLY
RICH)
OPTIONAL
5. ________ memories………...……..old pictures of classmates from grade
school up to graduation
6. ________ anything you would like to enter in our scrap book such
as newspaper write-ups about yourself or your family, obituaries, weddings,
accomplishments, etc.
Also, thank you for all the donations!!!! We NOW have
been able to hire a decorator to really make the sock hop on Friday
night look like an old-fashioned sock hop. Having heard from some of you, I
know we girls will look great in our poodle shirts. If you need help in
locating one, let me know. Also, guys, don’t forget your outfit. If you need
help, let us know. They are very inexpensive to buy or to rent. If you
played sports and could find an old baseball or football outfit,
cheerleading outfit, for instance, that would look great, especially since
we will be making pictures of the old team members, cheerleaders, glee club,
etc.
We are also able to make
Saturday night look like our 1960 prom. We will have Elvis, yes,
Elvis (literally), a soda shop section, many 45’s, old cars, and even a juke
box. When you enter, you can’t help but feel you are back in the 50’s. So
come prepared to hear only 50’s music both nights.
I don’t want to give away
all our surprises, so come prepared for fun,
fun, and more fun.
Thank you again for all your
help. We are getting up in age, and so we are going all out for this, our 50th
Reunion. Keep in mind, we are losing classmates, and our health is not as
good as it once was. So please, please, please……….. make a last
effort to attend.
Without your help, the
reunion will not, and would not, be a SUCCESS.
If there is anything any of
you would like to do or to help out doing, let me know. We don’t turn away
anybody.!!!!! This is your reunion, remember that. We have
tried to incorporate all of your suggestions from the last reunion, and they
are always appreciated. We want to please each and everyone of you.
There are still some
available rooms left at the Holiday Express (group rate) only until
midnight June 14.
Your classmate and friend,
Roberta
Roberta Walker and the reunion committee e-mailed
the following letter to class members on January 22, 2010, with reunion plans.
The letter was snail-mailed to the one for which we don't have an e-mail
address. If you did not receive a letter it is probably because Roberta does not
have your current e-mail address or your postal address, so please get in touch with her (see
class addresses
page). The committee is hoping to have 96%
participation this year.
Class of 1960
Hamlet High School
Hamlet, North Carolina
January 22, 2010
Dear Classmates,
Our 50th Class Reunion is planned for Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July
24, 2010, at the Ballroom in Hamlet. (former Levine's Dept Store) On
Friday we will meet at 6:00 for heavy hors d'oeuvres and a 1960's Sock
Hop. We have engaged the DJ of the Sandhills Shag Club, Mr. Roy
Childress of Lexington, from 7:00-11:00. He will be playing music from
the years 1957-1960. Please dress, ladies, in your poodle skirt, flip-up
hair wig and bobbie socks. Guys, well, look at the movie Grease. Special
entertainment from the members of the class would be nice. Surprise us
and lets have fun!!!!
On Saturday morning we will meet at 9:00 at the First United Methodist
Church on Charlotte Street in Hamlet for breakfast. Breakfast is being
catered by the same group who is catering both nights, Simply Elegant
Catering. Then we will return to the Ballroom to socialize as we
decorate for the big night, or you might like to visit, nap, or just
have free time.
On Saturday night we will meet again at the Ballroom at 6:00 and have
our group picture made at 6:30. At 7:00 we will have the Welcome,
Recognition of Guests and the Invocation. Our dinner will follow from
7:00 -8:30. After dinner, we will have the Memorial Service, and Elvis
entertainment featuring Mr. Mike Helms of Fort Mills, and dancing from
8:30 until.........? The attire is "dressy."
You will not receive your Class Directory Booklet at the Reunion. They
will be mailed later with your group picture. We want to include
pictures in the directory that will be made during the week-end
activities. The cost of the group picture is included in the week-end
cost, as I was told everyone bought a picture at the last reunion. (We
also don't want to spend an hour addressing envelopes and paying for the
pictures like last time.)
Please make a special effort to attend the week-end events as we want
THIS REUNION to be special. If you want to come and finances are a
problem, let me know (this will be kept confidential).
Please fill out the sheet enclosed for the Class Directory Booklet.
Please return this as soon as possible, so we can get started working on
the Class Directory. Deadline for reunion is June 15, 2010.
I have 15 rooms reserved at the Holiday Express in Rockingham at
910-895-0099 until June 15 for $85 plus tax. Ask for Lindsey and mention
Class of '60. If you would like to help with the reunion or be part of
the entertainment, let us know.
Sincerely,
Diana, Yvonne, Brenda, Bert, and Roberta
